This is the usual start position of the reversi game family.

Reversi also allows you to use other start positions.
Example first move: Dark plays D3, capturing D4 thanks to D5.

Whatever start position is used, there are four possible first moves.

In the usual start position like here, the four possibilities are equivalent by symmetry.
First Light move: playing E3 and capturing E4 thanks to E5.

Possible second move

Light has three possibilities of capturing one piece.

The game will require to search for the best strategy!
Dark turns multiple rows: playing F3, it captures both E3 due to D3 and E4 due to D5.

Capturing multiple rows

Dark has five possibilities to play, all on the sixth column.

Two of these possibilities allow capturing in two directions at the same time, one piece in each.

Capturing the higher number of tiles is not required in reversi, and may not be the best solution even. Only the number of owned tiles at the end of the game will count.

Turning a two-pieces row

Light has again three play possibilities.

One of them is to capture two dark pieces in a row.

Playing that way may allow Dark to play next on the board edge. Is that a good strategy? Who knows!
