Internet Relay Chat (IRC)

You must have the telepathy-idle package installed to use IRC in Empathy.

Chat Rooms and Conversations

Chat with somebody on IRC — Start a conversation with an IRC contact.

Favorite rooms — Set, join and manage favorite rooms.

IRC account details — Additional information necessary for connecting to IRC networks.

Join a protected IRC chat room — Enter password-protected IRC chat rooms.

Join an IRC chat room — Join an IRC channel.

Send files over IRC — Empathy does not currently support sending files using IRC.

Supported IRC commands — The supported IRC commands.

Use a nickname password on IRC — Protect your nickname to prevent other IRC users from using it.

Common Problems

I get a message that says “Name in use” — An error message which says “Name in use” appears in the main window.
