You can import Tomboy Notes. A plugin has to be activated.

To start Gnote automatically when you log into GNOME, run gnome-session-properties.
I'm not comfortable with new single-window interface
You can make Gnote behave the old way by selecting Always open notes in new window in Preferences dialog.
