Sound problems

There are a number of ways for sound playback to break on your computer. Which of the topics below best describes the problem you are experiencing?

I cannot hear any sounds on the computer — Check that the sound is not muted, that cables are plugged in properly, and that the sound card is detected.

I hear crackling or buzzing when sounds are playing — Check your audio cables and sound card drivers.
