Internet radio stations are similar to regular radio stations, allowing an individual or an organization to stream music live over the internet. Internet radio stations can be a simultaneous stream of a regular radio station, amateurs broadcasting their own station, or commercial radio stations that include live DJs and even commercials.
Search for internet radio stations using your favourite search engine. You can specify genres, channel frequencies, names of stations and other details to narrow down your search. Many radio stations display either a button or a link to listen to their stream. In most web-browsers, you can right click on the link and choose Copy Link.
Select Radio in the menu on the left hand side of your window, then click on Add Station on the upper right hand corner of Banshee. Or, you can select Media ▸ Add Station from the menu.
You will need to enter some details about the radio station that you wish to add. The first three fields are mandatory:
In the Station Genre text box, describe the type of music the internet radio station plays by creating an appropriate label, or choose a label from the available drop down selections.
In the Station Name text box, enter a name for the radio station.
In the Stream URL field, enter or paste the URL of the stream by right clicking and selecting Paste or pressing Control+V.
You can also fill out the fields for Station Creator, Description, and Rating.
Finally, click Save to save the internet radio station in Banshee.
To play a radio station, double click on the radio station. Alternatively, right click on the station and select Play or select the radio station and choose Playback ▸ Play.
To add a radio station to the Play Queue, you can right click on the station and select Add to Play Queue. This will play the radio station when the queue has finished playing all media which is ahead of the station in the Play Queue.
You can also right click the station and select Play after Current Track to add the radio station to the queue after the track that is currently playing.
Play after Current Track may not work on some Banshee installations.
To remove a radio station from Banshee, you can right click on the radio station and select Remove, or alternatively, you can select the station with your mouse and press Delete. When you are prompted for confirmation, click the Remove button to remove the radio station.
