MIME Types
This chapter describes how applications detect MIME types, how to register MIME types, and how to add applications to the GNOME Desktop.
The purpose of this chapter is to make it easy for an administrator to understand how to configure different parts of the MIME database and give an general overview of the MIME system. Therefore we will not attempt to go into details where it is not necessary. For the gory details, it is recommended that you refer to the XDG shared mime info specification.
